I Just Don't Know Where to Start
"I just don't know where to start."
It's one of the most common things I hear when people are feeling overwhelmed.
Then they begin telling me everything that's worrying them. A business problem. A financial issue. A pile of paperwork. A major life decision. More often than not, the personal and professional pieces are intertwined.
What I have come to learn is that the problem isn't a lack of intelligence, motivation, or effort.
It's overwhelm. It's having too much on their shoulders to handle.
When too many things are competing for your attention at the same time, it's hard to know what deserves attention first. Every decision feels important. Every task feels urgent.
So some people freeze. Some people retreat. And some people give up.
Not because they are weak, not because they don't care, but because they care about all of it.
The good news is that most situations become more manageable once they're broken down into smaller pieces.
You don't need to have everything figured out.
You just need a place to begin.
And sometimes, you just need someone to help you take that first step.
